Transfinder Corp.'s new headquarters in downtown Schenectady, New York is filling faster than president and CEO Antonio Civitella expected, but there's still room to grow.

The firm, which sells bus-routing software to schools, had 72 employees when its $7 million headquarters opened nearly a year ago on State Street.

Today, there are more than 80 employees. The total could exceed 100 by the end of this year as more software developers, programmers and others are hired. Some jobs pay more than $100,000.

"The most important piece we've been adding is the customer service end," Civitella said. "The client's needs are always number one."

New cubicles were installed to accommodate the growth, and some existing employees were moved to bring the customer service and training teams in closer contact.

"We are interviewing people almost on a daily basis," Civitella said.

The four-story building can accommodate about 120 employees, Civitella said. Future growth won't be confined to downtown Schenectady as Transfinder considers opening a satellite office to be closer to some of its 1,500 to 1,600 clients.

The firm's sales increased 23 percent during the first half of 2014 compared to the same period last year, reaching $8.6 million. Total revenue is expected to surpass $10 million this year.

Civitella said the company is profitable. He said the ratio of revenue to employees could be better, but he's more interested in steady, consistent growth.

"We keep bringing a lot of employees on board to deliver as much service as possible," he said. "I want to be in this industry 20-plus years so we're going to keep investing."
